Overview
Formed when a giant volcano collapsed millions of years ago, the Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. Its 600-meter-deep walls shelter a self-contained ecosystem containing grasslands, swamps, acacia forests, and Lake Magadi. When visiting the crater, travelers can also explore Empakaai Crater, Olmoti Crater, the historical Olduvai Gorge, and the Ngorongoro Lengai Geo Park. A drive to nearby Karatu exposes you to the Endoro Elephant Cave.
